India is a vast country and many of its area is under the cover of forest. Variety of animals and trees are found in these forests. This makes India’s wildlife rich and diverse.
Home to many charismatic species both large and small, India harbors some of the richest biodiversity in the world. There are about 400 species of mammals, 1250 birds, 460 reptiles, 240 amphibians and 2550 fish – among the highest species count for any country. India is best known for its signature species – elephants, tigers, monkeys, leopards, antelopes and rhinos. You have to be lucky to spot a tiger, but it can be done. Even if you don’t see any, you’ll enjoy wandering one of India’s many forest wildlife reserves on the back of an elephant, surrounded by birds and butterflies.
